Payment

Payment is due at the time of the appointment. Please contact us direct for family counselling rates.

At this time no rebates are available through Medicare for counselling services.

Therapy Styles & Definitions

Strength-Based Therapy

Strength-based therapy is a form of talk therapy that assists a person in capitalizing on positive qualities rather than negative ones.

This therapy holds the client as the storyteller. The story may include trauma, pain, and stressors from the past or present. The therapist encourages the client to think like a survivor rather than a victim. This allows the client to gain a better understanding of and control over their skills and strengths. These skills and strengths enable clients to survive and flourish no matter how tough life gets.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Solution-Focused Therapy is a short-term goal-focused approach, that utilises positive psychology to help clients change by creating solutions rather than focusing on problems. Solution focused therapy is a hope-friendly, and future-oriented modality that assists in motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioural change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages clients to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty about them.

Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, addictions, and substance abuse may benefit from this form of therapy. ACT is often combined with mindfulness-based therapies.

Interplay Therapy

Interplay therapy focuses on attachment. Through therapeutic play and connection, a child can express worries, thoughts, feelings, and trauma.

These expressions can then be worked through within a safe space. Building secure attachment has a flow-on effect on the child's emotional and cognitive development. It is mostly used with children, and young people, in conjunction with their primary caregivers.

Expressive Therapy

Expressive therapy uses many forms of creative expression such as writing a journal, drawing, painting, clay, role-play, dance, music and movement to help people articulate their inner world through self-discovery and expression. While a therapist may use one activity quite often a mix of different activities will be utilised in a session.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on what you are sensing and feeling in a particular moment, without interpretation or judgement. Breathing techniques and visualisations are often used to assist in the practice of mindfulness.
